What is an OLAT?
An OLAT is a one-day operator licence management course — the term used by the Traffic Commissioner to describe training covering your legal responsibilities as a licence holder.
The full name is Operator Licence Awareness Training. It covers the rules and regulations that apply to all operator licence holders — whether you hold a Restricted, Standard National, or Standard International licence. Topics include driver management, vehicle maintenance, drivers' hours, tachograph rules, and what the Traffic Commissioner expects from you.
An OLAT is often required as an undertaking from the Traffic Commissioner, typically following a Public Inquiry, compliance issues, or when applying for a new licence. However, many operators attend voluntarily to strengthen their team's compliance knowledge.
MDR Training is an approved examination centre offering the relevant transport manager CPC qualification for the type of licence held. Our OLAT certificates are recognised and accepted by Traffic Commissioners across the UK.
