The basics

What is the Transport Manager CPC?

The Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (TM CPC) is the qualification you need to be named as the Transport Manager on a Standard "National" or "International" Operator's Licence in Great Britain. It's regulated by the Traffic Commissioners and awarded by CILT.

You'll cover the full CILT syllabus — 26 modules for HGV or 24 for PSV — spanning drivers' hours and tachographs, costings, business finance and CPC-specific law. Two exams: a multiple-choice and a case study.

Every MDR course teaches to the current CILT syllabus and prepares you for both exams. There are two routes (haulage or passenger): choose the one that matches the Operator's Licence you'll be nominated on.

HGV (Road Haulage)

For goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Required for a standard National & International Operator Licences.

PSV (Passenger Transport)

For coaches, buses and PSV operations. Same qualification structure, specifically for passenger transport.

Everything students ask before booking a Transport Manager CPC course with us.

How long does the Transport Manager CPC take?
Our Classroom course is 10 days including the exam. The Online course runs 5 weeks (daytime) or 9 weeks (evening). Distance Learning typically takes 8–10 weeks. Home Study is entirely self-paced and most learners take 12 weeks or more.
What's the difference between HGV and PSV CPC?
The syllabus and exam structure are identical — the difference is the operational context. HGV (road freight) applies to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and is what you'll need if you're being nominated on a standard goods Operator's Licence. PSV (road passenger) applies to coaches, buses and PSV operations. You pick your pathway at enrolment. If you're unsure, call us.
Is the CILT exam included in the price?
Yes on our Classroom, Online and Distance Learning courses — the exam fee is bundled into the price shown. On Home Study the materials are £130 and the CILT exam is £307 separately. We handle the booking either way.
What happens if I fail the exam?
You can resit either paper individually. We give current students access to a paid CILT Exam Revision session and continued portal access to help you prepare. Most people who resit with our revision session pass on the second attempt.
What's your pass rate?
Around 86% first-time pass on Classroom and Online (tutored courses). Distance Learning sits at 60–65%. Home Study is 25–30% — self-study without a tutor is inherently harder. If passing first time matters to you, pick a tutored option.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. Klarna is available at checkout on every course — pay in three interest-free instalments. For Armed Forces personnel we also offer ELCAS-funded training (Provider 5682).
Is the qualification nationally recognised?
Yes. MDR is a CILT accredited training partner, and the Transport Manager CPC is a nationally recognised qualification awarded by CILT and regulated by the Traffic Commissioners. It's what Operator Licence applications require you to hold.
How is the online course delivered?
Live sessions with a real MDR tutor via video, plus access to the full learner portal (recordings, audio revision library, module-specific flashcards, practice papers). You attend as part of a cohort so you learn from other students' questions too. Daytime and evening cohorts run throughout the year.
Where is your classroom based?
